Dana R. Lahr, 55 of Swatara Township died peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2009 at Harrisburg Hospital.
Dana has always been a major part of The Sons of the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania. He has held numerous offices, including Central Section Commander 2 terms, Detachment Chaplin, and was a leading candidate for Detachment Commander. He held the office of Child Welfare Chairman for many years and was instrumental in bringing the program from infancy to the greatness it is today.
He was Adjutant for The Sons of the American Legion Post 998 as well as treasurer. He was the 19th District's Chaplin as well as past Commander for 2 terms. You would find Dana at most of the SAL's Sunday Breakfasts helping out.
Dana was married for 36 years to Allianne (Jamey) Lahr, loving father to Rebecca Hetrick and grandfather to Shayla Hetrick, who he adored. He was also well loved by his Grand-puppies Coco, Candi and Soda Pop who live with him. And his cats who he enjoyed watching their antics.
He was a valued employee for Howard Snyder at MasterClean for over 20 years, where they were his second family and he loved.
Dana was the son of Dennis R. Lahr (Pat) and the late Audrey Shardley (Weir).He was a brother to Denise Layne (Jeff), and Darrell Lahr (Nancy). There are numerous nieces, nephews' and cousins first and second that he enjoyed the company of.
Dana was also the adopted grandfather to Kristina, Charmaine, Jasmine, Alicia, Becky, Katie, Myesha, Candy, Nicki, and many, many other girl scouts who called on him as their Girl Scout grandpa as well as his best grand-buddy Joey.
He always had a smile and helping hand for anyone he would meet. He was a man that no one could be angry with because of his heart, and he was kind and generous and was always there for the people he loved, and even those he didn't know well. He was a ten year cancer survivor and was living his life to the fullest.
Dana was the member of the Blue Moon Cruisers and owned several classic Ford cars. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed being outdoors.
Donations may be to his granddaughter's college fund.
Viewing will be on Monday at the Chambers Hill United Methodist Church 6300 Chambers Hill Rd. Harrisburg from 10-11AM.
Services will be in the church at 11AM.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
