Phyllis R. Toone, 86 of Harrisburg died peacefully on Monday morning at the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg.
Born in Johnsonburg, PA she was the daughter of the late James Patrick and Katherine Anna (Wolf) Glennon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Toone, in 1994 and her son Michael who died this year.
She was a Gray Lady in WWII and after the war taking care of wounded veterans.
Phyllis worked for the PA Railroad selling tickets in Lock Haven PA. She then worked at GE/Sylvania as a secretary in Lock Haven. She was then transferred to New York City to work for General Electric and was later employed by the Mathew T. Bender Publishing Company in New York City.
She met and married her husband John, and moved to Harrisburg PA where she worked for several real estate companies such as Saft and McCarthy, Dan Kielly and others.
Phyllis was an active volunteer for the American Heart Assn. and the Contact Life Line.
She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and was the first woman to dig at the groundbreaking of the church.
She was a member and past president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, a host of the prayer line for over a decade, a bingo volunteer, a Boy & Girl Scouts volunteer, a foster parent volunteer, and contributed her time and resources to perform anything the church asked of her.
Surviving are her children, Michael, Mary Vieth, Patrick, Catherine Larios, Thomas, and Joseph; 17 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:30AM until 11AM at her church on Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11AM at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Assn. 1019 Mumma Rd. Wormleysburg PA 17043.
