LaSlavicJoseph L. LaSlavic, 84, of Harrisburg passed away March 16, 2010 at the Arden Courts Alzheimer's Assisted Living Home. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Verbanic) LaSlavic, and was preceded in death by his brother Thomas and sister Katherine A. LaSlavic
Joseph was a retired Legal Sales Representative of the West Publishing Company of St Paul MN; a 1951 Graduate of Edinboro University having earned a degree in Education; and a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during the 2nd World War. He was a member of VFW Post 9639. In retirement, he enjoyed owning and racing horses at Penn National Race Track, playing organized softball, biking, walking, and exercising to his heart's content.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Caroline Patricia (Mueller) LaSlavic; two sons, Kevin and wife Patricia of Greensburg, PA, David and wife Nancy of Phoenix, AZ, and daughter Julie Hess and husband Jeff of Harrisburg. Of great personal pride were his nine grandchildren: Stephanie (LaSlavic) McCarthy and husband Kerry, Michelle and Emily LaSlavic; Stephen, Patrick and Kevin Hess; and Nicole, Kenneth, and Kelly LaSlavic. Joseph was also recently blessed with his great grandson Kameron Hess. In addition, he is survived by his brother Nicholas (Col USMC Ret) and wife Irene (Becker) of Wilmington NC.
Family and Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday the 21st of March at the GILBERT L. DAILEY FUNERAL HOME., 650 S 28th St. Harrisburg, PA 17103, (717) 233-1933. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St Francis of Assisi Church, Market St. followed by interment services at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
