TorchiaWilliam A. Torchia, Sr. of Harrisburg and Hershey passed away
peacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital after a very brief and sudden illness
on Friday March 26.

Bill was born on September 20, 1913 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to
Felice and Catherine Torchia. He graduated from John Harris High School
and Penn State University and was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion.
Before retiring at age 82, he owned and operated Yost Heating and Cooling, Inc.

Bill was well known for his strong support of Penn State
football and his admiration for Joe Paterno. He sang with The Tailgate
Troubadors at all of the Penn State home games and was well known
among the fans.

His many interests included golf, music (he played many instruments including
his favorite Ukulele), and his large loving family.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey for 25 years and
a recent member of Holy Name of Jesus in Harrisburg.
He lived a very healthy and active life up to his death at age 96.
After leaving Hershey, where he lived for 25 years, he moved into the home
of his daughter Kathleen and her husband John Travers in Forest Hills.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years Catherine Scopelliti "Kaye" in 1996.
His survivors include his four children William A. Torchia, Jr. Esq. of Philadelphia,
Kathleen (wife of John Travers), Linda (wife of Joseph Armao) and
Mary Ann O'Leary; a brother Felice A. Torchia of Lewisberry; a sister Eva Barber
of Colorado; seven grand children, four great grand children and many nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 11:00a.m. at Holy Name of
Jesus Catholic Church, Allentown Blvd., Harrisburg. Graveside services will be
private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The William A.Torchia & John M. Travers
Intercollegiate Athletics Trustee Scholarship, c/o Nittany Lion Club, 157 Bryce Jordan Center,
University Park, PA 16802.
