Dr. Edwin L. Fitzpatrick, D.D.S., 82, of Harrisburg died peacefully on Saturday at Community General Osteopathic Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born on November 6, 1925 in Shamokin, PA he was the son of the late Richard E. and Amanda Olley Fitzpatrick. Dr. Fitzpatrick served in WWII in the USMC 6th Division. He was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a 1950 graduate of Mount Saint Mary's College and, in 1954, he graduated from Georgetown School of Dentistry. He was married to his loving wife, Rosemary (Cress) in 1953.
Dr. Fitzpatrick practiced dentistry for over 54 years in Penbrook and was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, PA Dental Society and Harrisburg Dental Society.
He served his family as a loving husband and father. Dr. Fitzpatrick also served his church as an ordained Deacon for thirty years in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg having been a Permanent Deacon at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Enola since 1978 and serving St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Penbrook at the 6:45 Daily Mass.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and West Shore Elks. Dr. Fitzpatrick is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rosemary; 3 sons, Leo R. of York, Kevin J. of Harrisburg, and Michael G. of Baltimore, MD.; a daughter, Colleen Bernard of Churchville, MD.; and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers; Rev. William J. Fitzpatrick, Rev. Eugene Fitzpatrick,C.P., Richard E. Fitzpatrick, and John J. Fitzpatrick.
Viewings will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00- 8:00 PM at Dailey Funeral Home, Penbrook and on Thursday from 6:00- 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes 225 Salt Rd. Enola, PA with a Scripture Service beginning at 8:00 PM.
On Friday, viewing will be from 10:00-11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated following at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The Dailey Funeral Home is honored to serve the Fitzpatrick family.
